The State of New Hampshire, Department of Military Affairs and Veterans Services has a part time vacancy for Cultural Resources Technician.

Summary:
 

Collects and organizes cultural resources data in support of the Department of Military Affairs and Veterans Services (DMAVS), Army National Guard cultural resource and environmental management programs.

 

MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS

Education: Associate's degree from a recognized college or technical college or two years of college with a major study in environmental engineering, or one of the physical or biological sciences, archaeology, architectural history or other related environmental science. Each additional year of approved formal education may be substituted for one year of required work experience.

 

Experience: One year's experience performing technical work in air analysis, noise or water quality control, forestry, soils, hydrology, geology, botany, biology, archaeology, architectural history or a related environmental field. Each additional year of approved work experience may be substituted for one year of required formal education.

 

License/Certification: Must possess a valid driver’s license.

18 Months of additional relevant experience = Associate's degree

36 Months of additional relevant experience = Bachelor's degree

 

54 Months of additional relevant experience = Master's degree

Special Requirements:

1. Must be able to satisfactorily undergo a State Police records check.

2. Must pass a National Agency Check (NAC) to obtain a Common Access Card (CAC) used in the performance of assigned work duties and be eligible for renewal as a condition of employment.

 

3. Occasional physical effort required in travel throughout the state and in walking and climbing over rough terrain; duties are generally performed under good working conditions with occasional exposure to minor injuries or toxic chemicals under certain field conditions. 


 

Responsibilities:
 

· Conducts in site visits to document the conditions of cultural resources including historic structures, archaeological sites and sites suspected of containing cultural resources.

· Researches, collects and compiles data and conditions of cultural resources to support preparation of National Historic Preservation Act Request for Project Reviews (RPR) for submission to the Division of Historic Resources State Historic Preservation Officer and Tribal Preservation Officer.

· Compiles, enters, and maintains data regarding historic and cultural resources managed by the DMAVS. Generates cultural resources data report needed for Army Environmental Quality reporting.

· Utilizes computer workstations to perform internet research, catalog and analyze environmental data including using Geographic Information System (GIS) to prepare Area of Potential Effects (APE) maps to be included in RPRs and National Environmental Policy Act environmental reviews.

· Creates cultural resources awareness materials for use in historic displays, electronic media and environmental training events.

· Prepares updates to the NHARNG Cultural Items Inventory utilizing data from site visits, research, and digital records.

· Drafts revisions to the NHARNG Integrated Cultural Resources Management Plan (ICRMP) developed in accordance with Department of the Army and National Guard Bureau requirements.

· Assists with other environmental media area projects including but not limited to air, water, waste, toxic substances, spill planning, natural resources, endangered species, pest management, wildland fire and pollution prevention.
