Internship - Ft Leavenworth Cultural Resources GIS

About Us:  

The Student Conservation Association (SCA) is the largest provider of hands-on environmental conservation programs for youth and adults. Program participants protect and restore national parks, national forests, wildlife refuges, marine sanctuaries, cultural landmarks, community green spaces, and much more across the country. 

 

Position Summary 

This position will assist the Fort Leavenworth GIS Manager, Natural Resources Specialist, and Cultural Resources Specialist in accomplishing goals set forth in the Fort’s Integrated Natural Resources Management Plan and the Integrated Cultural Resources Management Plan. These goals will require work on the 3,500 acres of unimproved lands on the Post and on the largest inventory of Pre-1919 buildings in the Army. The Resource Assistant (RA) will conduct map projects using ARC-GIS and Autocad. They will create data layers for habitat, species ranges, historic districts, and use LIDAR technologies.

Program Location

600 Thomas Avenue, Leavenworth, KS 66027

 

Key Duties and Responsibilities 

  • Mapping Natural and Cultural Resources; Ground truthing mapping areas
  • Data entry into ARC-GIS and AutoCAD
  • Collecting and entering Metadata; Work with LIDAR data
  • Geo-rectifying landmarks

 

Marginal Duties 

  • Environmental Education
  • Data entry

 

Required Qualifications 

Knowledge and experience working with ARC-GIS and AutoCAD and Lidar

 

Preferred Qualifications 

  • Ability to work independently
  • Adaptability to change focus as required by local conditions

 

Hours 

40 per week

 

Living Accommodations 

No housing is provided for this position.

 

Compensation  

  • $650.00 per week (combined living and housing allowance)
  • $1,100.00 one-time travel allowance

All allowances are subject to applicable federal, state, and local taxes.
