Rangeland Management Specialist

This position serves as a Rangeland Management Specialist for the Color Country District.

  • Administers livestock grazing on BLM allotments.
  • Implements adaptive rangeland management and coordinates with others using available assessments, collected monitoring data, experience, and sound science to ensure for multiple use and sustained yield of the resources.
  • Serves as a rangeland management specialist, consultant, and advisor to grazing permittees, ranchers, interdisciplinary teams, BLM management, and other land users while providing quality customer and team services.
  • Implements grazing regulations following BLM handbooks, manuals, Instruction Memorandums, and provided guidance
  • Performs compliance inspections to ensure terms and conditions of grazing authorizations, grazing permits, appropriate use levels, and range improvements are adhered with.
  • Develops National Environmental Policy Act (NEPA) for range action.
  • Processes protests and appeals then prepares casework in preparation for hearings.
  • Collects monitoring data for the understanding of rangeland functions and livestock interactions to make informed land management decisions and participates on teams for upland Rangeland Health and riparian Proper Functioning Condition assessments.
  • Compiles, analyzes, and evaluates monitoring data and assessments to inform the health and conditions of rangelands.
  • Processes grazing applications and generates grazing bills in consideration of rangeland conditions and available forage for sustainable grazing practices and works directly with grazing permittees in administering assigned allotments.
  • Processes grazing permit transfers, permit renewals, FOIA requests, range improvement requests, updates case files, and executes unauthorized livestock grazing actions.
  • Implements integrated weed management strategies.
  • Uses various databases (RAS, GIS, VMAP, Excel spreadsheets, etc.) for grazing administration and efficient management of workloads.
  • Collects monitoring data (e.g., utilization, trend, and precipitation) for the understanding of rangeland functions and livestock interactions to make informed land management decisions.
