USDA's Natural Resources Conservation Service (NRCS) is seeking a passionate Agronomist to serve as a conservation specialist in the Texas state Plant Materials Center, developing plant science technology to assist NRCS field offices in critical natural resource conservation and farm bill programs. 

 

Job duties include, but are not limited to:

  • Providing technical leadership and assistance in agronomic principles, precision agriculture, and soil health to farmers, ranchers, and landowners. 
  • Assessing and evaluating soil and water resource management problems and farming practices on individual or multiple tracts of land within assigned areas.
  • Evaluating effectiveness of agronomic practices, identifying technical problems and/or deficiencies, recommending improvements, and motivating landowners to implement and maintain sound conservation management systems. 
  • Assisting with vegetative and management practices to secure a balanced program of soil and moisture conservation. 
  • Promoting conservation tillage, cover crops, crop rotations, and nutrient and pest management through tours, conferences, and direct assistance to field office personnel and producers. 
  • Assisting in conducting on-the-job and formal training in agronomy to internal and external customers, providing information to field offices on agronomic techniques for inventorying, analyzing, and selecting treatment alternatives.

 

This position is located in Knox City, TX. Eligible candidates may qualify for reimbursement of relocation expenses in accordance with agency policy.
