2025 Engineering Co-op - Construction Materials Services

A Co-op position with SME is an ideal career opportunity for a motivated college student, interested in a profession in engineering, environmental sciences, and/or construction. Our Co-ops gain practical, hands-on training to help build skills by integrating full-time within our project teams. The Co-op experience helps students explore a potential future technical professional in the AEC industry. In addition, you will build lasting relationships with your co-workers as well as establish a strong industry network with experienced professionals.

SME's Co-op assignment begins in mid-May and requires a commitment to work full-time though mid to late November. There is no minimum number of years of college education to apply for our Co-op program, but our Summer Internships are only available to those who have previously completed a Co-op with SME.

Your Co-op experience begins with an orientation/training period lasting several weeks followed by on-the-job training with full-time SME Team Members. You will be exposed to a wide variety of construction techniques and project types, helping you explore a variety of future specializations. You will also have the opportunity to work and interact directly with construction managers, contractors, and design professionals. As a Co-op your responsibilities are real and you are an important part of the SME Team.

We are hiring Co-ops in Michigan, Ohio, and Indiana.

SME offers a competitive hourly wage and overtime, and a unique tuition reimbursement program for college courses completed the semester prior to you joining SME $300 per credit hour for As and Bs and $150 per credit hour for Cs. We also provide $500 per month for housing, , five paid days off and up to $150 reimbursement for steel-toed work boots.
