Job Summary

We are seeking a dedicated and compassionate Mild/Severe & Extensive Support Needs Teacher to join our team in the San Jose, CA area. This full-time role involves working with K-12 students with varying support needs, including those requiring extensive assistance due to cognitive, emotional, or physical disabilities. The ideal candidate will have a strong background in special education, a passion for supporting diverse learning needs, and the ability to create inclusive, effective, and engaging learning environments.

Responsibilities

  • Develop and Implement Individualized Education Programs (IEPs): Create and deliver tailored educational programs in line with each student's IEP, accommodating varying learning, social, and emotional needs.
  • Adapt Curriculum: Modify and adapt curriculum to meet diverse cognitive and physical abilities, ensuring each student has access to a quality education.
  • Provide Instructional Support: Use evidence-based strategies to instruct students in academic, behavioral, social, and life skills, based on their individualized needs.
  • Collaboration: Work collaboratively with parents, caregivers, and multidisciplinary teams, including speech therapists, occupational therapists, psychologists, and other educational staff, to promote student success.
  • Behavioral Management: Develop and implement behavior intervention plans (BIPs) to manage challenging behaviors and provide positive behavioral supports in the classroom.
  • Documentation and Reporting: Maintain detailed records of student progress, preparing regular reports and assessments to monitor IEP goals and progress.
  • Professional Development: Participate in ongoing professional development opportunities to stay current on best practices in special education.
  • Classroom Environment: Establish a supportive and safe classroom environment that promotes students' social, emotional, and academic growth.
  • Compliance: Ensure compliance with state and federal regulations, including the Individuals with Disabilities Education Act (IDEA) and other relevant laws.

Qualifications

  • Education: Bachelor's degree in Special Education or related field; Master’s degree preferred.
  • Certification: California Special Education Teaching Credential (Mild/Moderate or Moderate/Severe).
  • Experience: Experience working with K-12 students with mild to severe support needs, including those with extensive support requirements.
  • Skills: Strong interpersonal, communication, and organizational skills; familiarity with assistive technology and adaptive tools.
  • Knowledge: Proficient in individualized instruction methods, behavior management, and de-escalation techniques.
