Job Description: Part-Time K-12 Musical Theatre Teacher

Position Title: Part-Time Musical Theatre Teacher
Reports To: Senior Director of Academic Programs

Position Overview:
The Part-Time K-12 Musical Theatre Teacher will design, implement, and lead a dynamic musical theatre curriculum for students in grades K-12. This role involves fostering creativity, confidence, and collaboration among students while integrating acting, singing, and movement into engaging theatrical experiences. The teacher will inspire a love for the performing arts and contribute to the broader mission of the Academy by nurturing artistic expression and community involvement.

Key Responsibilities:

Instruction and Curriculum Development:

  • Teach foundational and advanced techniques in acting, voice, and movement as part of a musical theatre curriculum.
  • Develop and deliver age-appropriate lesson plans for students ranging from kindergarten through high school.
  • Introduce students to various genres, styles, and history of musical theatre, fostering an appreciation for the art form.
  • Evaluate students' progress in technical skills, performance quality, and artistic growth.

Student Support and Engagement:

  • Use inclusive and adaptive teaching strategies to support diverse learning needs and abilities.
  • Provide constructive feedback to students to enhance their confidence and skills.
  • Communicate regularly with parents/guardians, teachers, and administrators to share student progress and achievements.
  • Create a positive and collaborative classroom environment that encourages student creativity and self-expression.

Production Coordination and Performance Direction:

  • Direct and produce school musical theatre productions, including casting, rehearsals, and performance planning.
  • Collaborate with students and staff to design and stage theatrical productions that highlight students' talents and learning.
  • Organize performance opportunities both within the school and in the broader community.
  • Share your passion for musical theatre with students, inspiring their enthusiasm and commitment.

Additional Duties:

  • Teach the history, theory, and technical aspects of musical theatre, including script analysis, vocal techniques, and choreography.
  • Ensure the safety and maintenance of performance and rehearsal spaces, props, and costumes.
  • Participate in school events and contribute to community outreach initiatives.
  • Support other programming and duties as assigned.

  • Demonstrate a commitment to the Founder’s vision and support initiatives of the Head of School and other leadership.
  • Bring experience in musical theatre performance, direction, or education, preferably working with diverse populations and learning styles.
