REPORTS TO: Assistant Director of Educator Preparation

CLASSIFICATION: Contract Position

START DATE: July 2025 

BACKGROUND: 

The Educator Academy (The EA) is a nonprofit education organization focused on recruiting and preparing individuals to become teachers, and also supporting current teachers to stay in the classroom for the long term. We envision a world where an equitable education system is a reality. To get there, we aim to cultivate and sustain empowered educators in creating equitable classroom experiences for all students.

This position will interact with  our Teacher Residency program. This program is designed for individuals with little to no teaching experience to earn teacher certification. This model allows teacher residents to learn theory and apply strategies in real-time in a clinical experience. Residents gradually transition from observing and supporting the mentor teacher to lead-teaching full days of instruction by the end of the school year. After the residency year is complete, graduates commit to being a teacher of record in Kansas City for at least 3 years. Throughout the entire process, The EA provides instructional coaching to our teachers to ensure they are growing to become highly effective in their classrooms. This instructor position will be providing instruction to participants pursuing Special Education certification through our residency program.
 


POSITION OVERVIEW:  

The Educator Academy is seeking a dynamic and effective Special Education Course Instructor to teach six courses across 24 individual sessions. These courses will take place on Mondays between the hours 8:30 a.m. and 4:30 p.m. from August 2025 to May 2026. The specific schedule will be finalized upon hire. Applicants should anticipate dedicating 4–8 hours per week, which includes time for in-person instruction, preparation, grading, and participant support.

 

RESPONSIBILITIES: 

  • Planning course sessions -A course scope, module plans, and session plans are provided, but ongoing revisions are encouraged to ensure continuous improvement, as guided by the Assistant Director of Ed Prep.
  • Course Materials-  Design and deliver engaging course materials, including presentations, handouts, and assessments, with flexibility to adapt between in-person and virtual formats.
  • Developing course syllabi - Submit syllabi using EA's template two weeks before the semester starts.
  • Session Delivery - Conduct in-person courses on Mondays, arriving 30 minutes early for setup and resetting the space after each session
  • Grading - Provide timely, constructive feedback on assignments, with grades and feedback recorded within one week of submission.
  • Participant support - Offer ongoing support, including posting announcements, clarifying expectations, responding to emails within 48 hours, and addressing performance issues in coordination with the Assistant Director of Ed Prep.
  • Instructor Meetings - Attend bi-weekly meetings with the Assistant Director, with additional meetings as needed, focused on instructor and student performance.
  • Professional Development - Participate in job-embedded professional development through observations, feedback, and reflective discussions during instructor meetings


QUALIFICATIONS:

  • Master’s Degree required
  • 3 or more years of teaching in the content/certification area required
  • Preferred but not required: Prior experience teaching adults

COMPENSATION:

The Educator Academy offers competitive compensation for this scope of work commensurate with experience level, credentials and anticipated duties and responsibilities, ranging from $8,000 - $10,700 based on instructor credentials, credit hours and class size.  This is a contracted position and not to be considered an offer of full- or part-time employment with The EA.
