The Challenge

We're looking for an Electronics Technician to join our Division 2 Traffic Services team working in Beaufort, Greene, Lenoir, Pitt, and surrounding counties.

 

In this role, you will:

  • Maintain and repair electrical, electronic, and computerized traffic control systems.
  • Assist in the installation, testing, upgrades, and inspections of new and existing Traffic Control Systems.
  • Install traffic signal equipment using wiring detectors.
  • Install and wire controllers.
  • Trace out electrical wiring diagrams to locate trouble.
  • Dismantle and reassemble components.
  • Replace worn/faulty parts.
  • Maintain computer records for all signal work, your time worked, and all materials.

 

What You Bring

  • Knowledge of standard test equipment used to diagnose electronic components.
  • Experience reading and understanding schematic drawings and wiring diagrams.
  • Knowledge of the National Electric Code.
  • Demonstrated ability to plan, schedule, and carry out work assignments effectively with minimal supervision.
  • Experience performing manual and physical labor in varied environmental conditions.
  • Strength to lift up to 80 pounds or more shoulder high.
  • Ability to use and operate an aerial bucket truck up to 60 feet.
  • Good ability to understand and follow verbal and written instructions and comply with all safety rules/policies to maintain a safe work environment.
  • Ability to perform manual physical labor in the installation and removal of traffic signs and other traffic control devices.
  • You can work outside in extreme cold and hot, and with exposure to noise, dust, asphalt, traffic and heavy construction.
  • Ability to get a Class A Commercial Driver's License and Tanker "N" Endorsement within 360 days of hire. (Don't have it?  Still Apply!  You can get it through our On-the-job Training within 360 days of hire).
  • Safety toe shoes.

 

Notes

  • Your work will be performed without constant supervision and will be evaluated by your supervisor to ensure an efficient use of time and proper operation of repaired/maintained Traffic Control Systems.
  • Overtime work is required when necessary, and you will be subject to emergency callback.  
  • A pre-employment drug test is required, and we will check with previous employers for the past 3 years about controlled substances/alcohol abuse.

 

Education & Experience

  • Associate's degree in Electronics, and
  • 1+ year experience in the repair and maintenance of specialized electronic devices, preferably including some responsibility for circuit modification; or
  • An equivalent combination of training and experience.
