
Special Educator
The Iowa Department of Health and Human Services (HHS) is seeking a Special Educator to join the team at the Independence Mental Health Institute (IMHI). This is a year-round, 40 hours per week position with opportunity for advancement, growth, and development.
Our Special Educator will provide direct instruction in academic content as assigned to students K-12 in a classroom. Responsibilities include educational programming for acute child and adolescent inpatients at the facility. Special Educators also participate as members of the interdisciplinary treatment team in collaboration with other professionals.
This position requires the possession of an Initial, Standard, Master Educator or Exchange License or be eligible to obtain a Class B License through the Iowa Board of Educational Examiners, meeting all endorsement requirements for the teaching assignment: Instructional Strategist I or Instructional Strategist II, Iowa Teaching Endorsements in the content area or level of the teaching assignment may be required at the discretion of the Education Administrator.

IMHI provides inpatient treatment and acute psychiatric services, including individualized treatment plans and support for children and adolescent patients to continue their education. Individuals are encouraged to collaborate with staff members in formulating their own plan. Medication, group counseling, and activities therapies might be included as well.
