New Product Development Engineer

JOB DESCRIPTION

 

If you are an Engineering professional looking for an opportunity to grow, Copeland has an exciting opportunity for you!  As a NPD Development Engineer, you will be responsible for the development of new products using industrial compression technology. Based in our Cudahy, WI location, you will be a member of the New Product Development Team that directs, coordinates, and exercises functional authority for planning, developing, designing, and the integration of innovative engineering solutions in the fields of RNG, Refrigeration and Heat Pump Applications.  As the industrial industry tackles decarbonization initiatives and a more sustainable future, this role will lead efforts to create products that make a difference in the world of tomorrow.

 

These new solutions will focus on sustainability, improved efficiency, modular and standard designs in a wide range of industry segments on an international level. You will work with cross-functional teams to develop all the details of the design to integrate purchased components into the manufacturing of the product. The team may include working directly with strategic partners, test laboratories, customers and our Cudahy, Wi and Pune, India team.

As A New Product Development Engineer, You Will:

  • Develop compressor and package units that meet engineering specifications, industry standards, company production, quality standards, and customer requirements.
  • Create detailed designs, BOMs, and documentation to support manufacturing of standard product designs.
  • Manage projects from inception to completion, ensuring adherence to sound engineering principles and practices.
  • Provide hands-on support for R&D efforts, including assembly and testing of components on prototypes and in the field as needed.
  • Review and improve designs to enhance quality, reduce costs, increase production efficiency, and approve design changes and drawing releases.
  • Collaborate cross-functionally on pre-job planning, scheduling, problem-solving, and continuous improvement initiatives.
  • Analyze and adjust test results to meet specifications, coordinate international design team efforts, and maintain all required documentation, ensuring compliance with safety and quality standards.

 

Required Education, Experience & Skills:

 

  • Bachelor’s degree in Engineering with at least 5 years of mechanical experience (including rotating machinery and hands-on work), or an equivalent combination of education and experience.
  • Strong knowledge of compression technologies, thermodynamics, mass flow, heat transfer, and experience in refrigeration or process/natural gas compression.
  • Proficient in 3D and 2D design software (e.g., Inventor, AutoCAD, Vault) with the ability to read, analyze, and interpret drawings, specifications, codes, and technical documents.
  • Skilled in writing reports, business correspondence, and procedure manuals, with experience presenting technical information and responding to questions from internal and external stakeholders.
  • Strong problem-solving abilities with practical engineering tool experience, a solid understanding of thermodynamics/fluid dynamics, and willingness to travel up to 15%.
  • Legal work authorization in the United States - Sponsorship will not be provided for this role

 

Preferred Education, Experience & Skills:

  • 7-8 years of mechanical experience
  • Experience in Industrial Applications
  • Experience with compressor technology and qualification testing
  • Demonstrate the ability to work with Manufacturing and Production Engineering to release new products
  • Strong English communication skills
  • Familiarity with applicable standards and codes: ASME Section VIII, ASME B31.3, NEC, NFPA, IMC, IBC, AWS, etc.

 

Working Conditions:

This position works in an office environment, with daily exposure to manufacturing, production and testing environments.

 

Onsite Work Arrangement:

This role is based fully onsite, and not eligible for hybrid or remote work opportunities
